    Peak renamed after Welsh princess  Sep 26, 2009
    Carnedd Uchaf in the Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia, will become Carnedd Gwenllian following a campaign by the Princess Gwenllian Society ... The Ordnance Survey (OS) agreed to put Gwenllian on the map after a campaign by the society and consultation with groups such as the National Trust and Snowdonia National Park Authority.     Turner and his Welsh inspiration  Aug 14, 2009
    Also in the Welsh section of the exhibition will be Turner's dramatic Dolbadern Castle in Snowdonia, showing the ruined fortress in the wilds of north Wales. This is paired with another rugged mountainous scene by the Italian artist Salvator Rosa, whose painting again inspired the English artist. (BBC News -- Entertainment)

    Welsh pine marten DNA 'different'  Apr 7, 2009
    Pine martens are mainly found in the Cambrian mountains area from north west Wales to Carmarthenshire, with further pockets in Carmarthenshire, Snowdonia and possibly Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. There have only been a handful of firm sightings of the creature in half a century, and the DNA tests were carried out on a collection of pine marten skull and bones, with the most recent dating from 1948.
