My theory is that the Indians going to Lake Huron went the way I did then coming back toward Lake Michigan, they went out of town going west up the Au Sable to about where the M-72 bridge is, then portaged up the vicinity of the highway west to the trail to Danish Landing. From Danish Landing across Lake Margrethe to Portage Creek, which may not be as easily navigable upstream out of the Manistee but easy to float canoes and gear down stream from the lake to the Manistee River.
