According to Terri Menshek, media coordinator for the Sonoma County District Attorney's office, Perez will have to serve a minimum of 85 percent of his sentence, meaning he will be no younger than 60-years-old at his earliest release date. Juan Carlos Puppet Perez, a 25-year old American Canyon man accused of participating in the October 22, 2007 shooting death of 17-year old Luis Miranda in Maxwell Farms Regional Park, was convicted of second degree murder Friday in Sonoma County Superior Court. Perez is one of three men charged in the Miranda murder, which occurred in the dark at a picnic area beside the Sonoma Valley Boys & Girls Club following an exchange of insults between suspected gang members.
