The students followed that instruction in gingerly prying a couple of pieces of loose clapboard off the antebellum plantation house, built by South Carolina rice planter William Brailsford between 1803 and 1806 on a rich floodplain near the mouth of the Altamaha River. In modern construction, the board would be replaced, but the aim was to remove it intact and secure it again. (Athens Banner-Herald)

He fears a developer who otherwise would be prohibited from having a marina could dig out a pond so close to a marsh that the natural tidal action would wash out an opening into the creek, creating a navigable passage.
